As reported by The School Administrator, AASA recently asked school administrators to indicate their priority for the use of stimulus funds in their districts. The report findings, "Looking Back, Looking Forward: How the Economic Downturn Continues to Impact School Districts" indicate these top five high-priority uses:
- Classroom technology (57%)
- School modernization/repair (54%)
- Safety/security measures (40%)
- Connectivity (39%)
- Professional development (37%)
Interestingly enough, Tech&Learning carried a story entitled, "Survey says students don't think their schools' tech is current"—results of which were taken from the 2008 Speak Up survey.
On one hand administrators are eager to update and upgrade technology in the classroom. On the other hand, 43% of students feel impeded by school filters or firewalls, and one-third of students polled believe they should be able to use their own personal technology devices and tools (laptops, cell phones, and MP3 players) during the school day to work electronically.
So, how do you propose to strike a balance?
